All profits from the sale of our releases are used to pursue our mission to preserve and enhance all recorded music heritage, and make it available to the public.

The releases you will find in our Shop are a small example of what can be achieved when the trouble is taken to preserve and enhance that heritage: high-definition audio restoration and mastering, reproduction of pictures, documents, personal stories and historical accounts, etc...

Unlike the masterpieces of painting, sculpture, and architecture that have come down through history, the lifespan of audio recordings is very limited, due to:

• physical and chemical degradation of recording media,
• obsolescence of technical equipment,
• loss of expertise.

According to UNESCO, we only have 10 to 15 years left to transfer available audiovisual recordings to digital media and prevent their loss.

Much of the world's audiovisual heritage has already been irrevocably lost through neglect, destruction, decay and the lack of resources, skills, and structures, thus impoverishing the memory of humanity. Much more will be lost if stronger and concerted international action is not taken. 

It was in this context that the 2005 UNESCO General Conference approved the commemoration of a World Day for Audiovisual Heritage as a mechanism to raise general awareness of the need for urgent measures to be taken and to acknowledge the importance of audiovisual documents for the definition of identity.
